The reading  ‘Why social networks are good for kids’ outlines  that social networks are beneficial to students as they foster maintaining relationships with peers  and also enhances ones identity. The issue of absence of empathy was raised in the article however it was maintained that due to social networking being connected to real relationships empathy is therefore present. (Lacy,2009)

 Critical reflection…

I agree that social networking is good for kids as it promotes self expression and relationships. Students are able to form their own unique profiles that reflect their individuality. It provides them with the opportunity to engage creatively as they can use a variety of mediums to express themselves.  Social net working is significant as it fosters communication and collaboration as students are able to connect with their peers and maintain relationships with their friends. This is supported by the article as Lacy (2009)  stated, “Face book and Twitter are about extending your real identity and relationships online. “ this conveys that social networking is good for kids as it fosters ones relationship with their peers and enables one to express their unique identity.
